How to Preserve Your Baby Diaper Bags
Most parents would like to preserve their baby diaper bags for as long as they can, because there’s no telling when another baby would come along to join a growing family.
While baby bags aren’t really that fragile, there are some basic measures you can take to preserve the color and durability of these bags until the next baby comes along. On the other hand, if you want, you can preserve your baby bags now so that you would be able to pass them along to your close friends or colleagues if they don’t mind used baby bags.
Proper handling
Since baby diaper bags aren’t made of the toughest textiles around, you have to be careful where you place your bag. Ideally, your baby bags should never be exposed to extremes of temperature and weather conditions, and should never be put on the lowest level of any pile.
Most baby bags have foam linings that serve to cushion whatever is put inside. Diaper bags don’t just contain diapers, they can contain bottles of milk, milk cases, baby powder, diaper clips and a slew of other vital accessories that make a mom and dad’s life that much easier.
Washing
Proper washing should be taken into consideration so that the inside linings and the outside stitches of the bags are preserved. Read the literature included with the bags. See if machine washing can be done If it can be done, always use the lowest cycle for your baby diaper bags.
Don’t use heavy bleaches as these might erase the designs and damage the material used on the bags. If there is milk or poop stains on your bag, use mild stain removers and apply them only to the affected parts of the bag.
If the bag is especially reactive to stain removers, dilute the stain remover first before applying once again.
Drying the bag
Baby diaper bags were not designed to be tossed around a machine washer for five minutes on dry cycle. If you want to preserve your bag, consider making use of air-drying or sun drying. Remember to keep the heavily colored parts of the bag away from the sun.
If you can, hanging your newly washed baby bag inside out would also be a great way to preserve the colors. Mild detergents should be used in conjunction with fabric conditioners.
Again, bleaches are to be avoided because these compromise the quality and durability of the textile itself. In the end, you’ll find your bag has withstood not only your baby, but time itself.
